The surge of Android enabled phones continues at a rapid pace with news from Google that 200,000 Android phones are being sold every day.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt revealed the figure at the Techonomy conference Wednesday, and that the sales are leading to significant revenue in via increased mobile search traffic.

“People are finally beginning to figure out how successful Android is” Schmidt said. “The number was about 100,000 (a day) about two months ago. It looks like Android is not just phenomenal but incredibly phenomenal in its growth rate. God knows how long that will continue.”

CNet notes that Schmidt explained that even though Google doesn’t get revenue from handset makers, Google loves the success of Android because it means more people have phones capable of doing lots of web searches, who then click on search ads.

“Trust me that revenue is large enough to pay for all of Android’s activities and a whole bunch more,” Schmidt said. “I should also say that we love the success of the iPhone because the iPhone also uses Google’s search and we get a chunk of that revenue when people search on the iPhone.”
