Star Wars legend George Lucas married his long time girlfriend this weekend.

People reports George Lucas, 69, married his fiancée, Mellody Hobson, on Saturday night, June 22, in Marin County, California, not far from the producer’s famous Skywalker Ranch.

Famous faces in the crowd at the Lucas-Hobson celebration included director Ron Howard who offered congratulations to the couple via Twitter , saying the wedding was a “joy to behold”.

Another Star Wars family member, Samuel L. Jackson – who portrayed the character of Mace Windu in The Phantom Menace , Attack Of The Clones , and Revenge Of The Sith – also tweeted out best wishes for the couple, asking fans to “give a Galactic shout out to Master George Lucas & his bride”.

The couple began dating in 2006 after meeting at a business conference and became engaged last January.

During an interview together with Oprah last year, the couple opened up about their relationship.

“I think it works because we are extraordinarily open-minded people and we’re open to what the universe brings us,” explained Hobson.

“I think we didn’t have preconceived ideas about what a partnership should be and so we allowed ourselves to discover something that was unexpected.”

Mellody Hobson is chairman of the board at Dream Works Animation SKG Inc., and heads investment management firm, Ariel Investments.

This marriage is a first for Chicago born Hobson, age 44, and a second for Lucas, who was married to Marcia Lou Griffin from 1969 to 1983.

Lucas has three adopted children – Amanda, Katie, and Jett – who appear in all three Star Wars prequels.

Now that George Lucas has married again, he’ll have plenty of time to spend with his new bride — the Lucasfilm production company was sold off to Disney last fall for $4.05 billion.

The Star Wars creator explained his reasons for selling Lucasfilm Ltd in a series of videos, offering the following:

“I’m doing this so that the films will have a longer life, so that more fans and people can enjoy them in the future. It’s a very big universe I’ve created and there’s a lot of stories in there.”

Congratulations to George and Mellody on starting a new chapter together.
