The Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro tablet will go on sale February 9. The new tablet adds a full version of the Windows 8 platform to Microsoft’s struggling tablet line. The new tablet will go on sale in both the United States and Canada.
While the Surface RT was focused squarely on the tablet market, the Surface Windows 8 Pro is meant to target the ultrabook sector. Windows 8 on the new tablet allows for full Microsoft Windows 8 support and steps up its capabilities with an Intel Core i5 processor.
The full Windows 8 platform on the new tablet is compatible with all Windows 7 and Windows 8 applications.
The new Pro model is available in 64GB and 128GB variants, and both devices feature a surface pen for easy stylus input. Both devices also come with a traditional keyboard.
Just like the Windows Surface RT tablet, the Windows Surface 8 Pro features a 10.6-inch display with full 1920×1080 HD resolution.
The high-end Surface Windows 8 Pro tablet starts at $899, much more expensive than the $499 starting price for the Windows Surface RT.
Along with the release of the Windows 8 Pro tablet, Microsoft will increase the cost of a Windows 8 Pro upgrade to $200. Windows 8 Pro currently costs $40 (download) and $70 for a DVD copy.
