Former New Orleans Saints assistant coach Gregg Williams has been suspended ever since he orchestrated a bounty program aimed at hurting competing players. Now the former Saints coach is being eyed as the new assistant head coach of the Tennessee Titans.
According to league sources, the Titans are just waiting for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to reinstate the disgraced coach. It is believed that the reinstatement of Gregg Williams could happen as early as next week.
Williams has a long history with the Titans, having worked for Tennessee from 1993 to 2000.
The Titans have already met with Williams, and, during that meeting, he had the chance to speak with head coach Mike Munchak and various other members of the NFL teams staff.
Already endorsing Gregg Williams for the assistant head coach position is former Titans and St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher. Fisher had hired Gregg Williams as the defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams this past season, but Williams was not allowed to coach for the entirety of the season.
Gregg Williams and his representatives are not commenting on his potential new role with the Tennessee Titans at this time.
Williams and the Titans are not expected to announce a hiring decision until Roger Goodell officially issues a reinstatement order.
