Cloud notetaking and archiving service Evernote has confirmed today that it has been hacked.

Company representatives stated that unidentified individuals managed to gain access to its servers. As a result, usernames, email addresses, and passwords have reportedly been compromised.

SlashGear explains that Evernote doesn’t believe any notes or information were viewed by third-parities. The company also stated that billing information for Premium or Business is also secure.

Evernote users are now required to change their passwords as a safety precaution. Although usernames, email addresses, and passwords were compromised during the hack , the company believes user data is still secure.

The official statement reads:

“On February 28, the Evernote Operations & Security team became aware of unusual and potentially malicious activity on the Evernote service that warranted a deeper look. We discovered that a person or persons had gained access to usernames, email addresses and encrypted user passwords. In our ongoing analysis, we have found no evidence that there has been unauthorized access to the contents of any user account or to any payment information of Evernote Premium and Evernote Business customers.”

According to The Verge , none of the cloud service’s data was “accessed, changed, or lost” as a result of the hack. However, all users will be required to change their passwords the next time they log in.

In order to assist those people with the reset process, Evernote intends to release a patch across various platforms. The company will also offer up advice for those looking for secure passwords.

Gizmodo explains that the passwords stolen by the hackers are encrypted. Although they may have the material in their possession, the company believes those responsible will have a hard time cracking the code.

It’s currently unknown who is responsible for the recent Evernote hack. An investigation into the security breach is currently underway.
