Are you seeing a little extra purple on Facebook today? Don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with your screen. Today is GLAAD’s Spirit Day and several people have decided to turn their profiles purple on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr in protest of LGBT bullying.
Slate reports that GLADD has partnered with Twibbon to make it easy for people to tint their Facebook photos purple. If you want to join in on Spirit day you can visit GLAAD’s Twibbon site here . After a few clicks you’ll be able to turn your profile picture purple.
“Spirit Day is annual day in October when millions of Americans wear purple to speak out against bullying and to show their support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth … Use GLAAD’s #SpiritDay tool and after you turn your profile pictures purple, spread the word by posting to Twitter and Facebook.”
GLAAD notes that Twitter users have also taken over a homophobic hashtag on Twitter in an attempt to stop spreading messages of hate. The hashtag #SignsYoSonIsGay has become a place for inspirational messages thanks to Spirit Day.
