A new trailer for After Earth has arrived online.
The film will bring reunite Hollywood star Will Smith with his son Jaden . The two previously worked together on director Gabriele Muccino and writer Steve Conrad’s The Pursuit of Happyness .
After Earth is the first film directed by M. Night Shyamalan following his 2010 adaptation The Last Airbender . Since that movie was hit with a number of Razzie Awards following its release, Shyamalan is hoping to recapture the success of his earlier work.
Gary Whitta and M. Night Shyamalan reportedly collaborated on the script for the upcoming sci-fi flick. Whitta previously tackled scripting duties on The Book of Eli and episode four of The Walking Dead video game.
Columbia Pictures describes After Earth as follows:
“A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.”
The studio and Shyamalan are banking on the futuristic thriller to become a huge worldwide box office hit when it lands in theaters this summer.
Internet Movie Database currently has Will Smith attached to no less than three high-profile sequels. In addition to reprising his roles in I, Robot 2 and Hancock 2 , the former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star is slated to portray Detective Mike Lowrey once again in Bad Boys 3 .
