Tony Hawk’s parenting skills were put into question this week when the legendary skater posted a photo of his little girl riding on his skateboard. People from around the internet criticized Hawk for letting his 5-year-old daughter ride on the skateboard without a helmet. But those people forget one thing: Her dad is Tony Hawk.
Hawk posted a photo on Instagram explaining that his daughter was perfectly safe while riding on his skateboard.
Hawk said:
“One more from yesterday (via @msk8blake ). For those that say I endanger my child: it’s more likely that you will fall while walking on the sidewalk than I will while skating with my daughter.”
It’s not a reasonable request to have your own child wear a helmet when they are riding a bike or skateboarding but the Kadence Clover Hawk is in pretty capable hands when she’s skating with her father. Hawk was the first person to land a 900 on a skateboard and is considered one of the greatest skaters of all-time. (That 900, by the way, was pulled off more than a decade ago.)
Needless to say, Hawk is pretty qualified to give out skating lessons.
Of course, the legendary skater isn’t the only person to have their parenting skills questioned due to some strange behavior. Steve Irwin was once criticized for having his daughter play to close to a crocodile and earlier this year a researcher was chastised for letting his toddler play with a gorilla . Those activities may be dangerous for your average person but, in the modified words of Tony Hawk: “It’s more likely that you get eaten by a crocodile while eating at Long John Silver’s than Steve Irwin’s daughter will when he’s playing with her in a swamp.”
