I spotted the Lenovo SkyLight today and the Qualcomm based unit with cloud computing is one of the more sleek and overall well designed Smartbook type devices I’ve spotted to date.
The unit features a Qualcomm 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM II processor, with a shiny red surface (Blue coloring is also available) and folds like a clamshell styled phone with a full size keyboard hidden inside the devices 10 inch display with 1,280-by-720 pixels of resolution.
Lenovo has also decided to include a customized Linux OS instead of Windows, while provided direct access to popular websites including Google Gmail, Facebook, Amazon MP3, YouTube and Roxio’s CinemaNow online application.
The SkyLight according to Lenovo reps at the CES 2010 show also runs for up to 10 hours thanks to the low processing power of the chipset, although that’s not all that impressive considering most 6 cell Netbooks with Intel’s new N450 Pine Trail processors can manage the same.
In terms of memory the unit features an 8GB internal flash drive with an 8GB mini SD Card and 4GB USB Flash Drive support. You’ll notice in our pictures that the USB flash drive also features a unique flip jack that folds in and out from the keyboard. This USB option is one of my favorite parts of the system having wreck many drives in the past.
The unit, when released later this year, will also feature 3G (AT&T in United States), 2 USB Ports and an MMC card slot. Users will also be able to take advantage of built-in WiFi, a mini-HDMI connector and an integrated 1.3MP webcam.
Users can pick up the Lenovo Skylight for $499 when it’s released later this year.
