The world waited nine agonizing months to meet the royal baby and now that here he is here there is only one thing that people are talking about: The Royal Town Crier.
Did you see that guy? Shortly after the royal baby was born the town crier, dressed in a traditional and completely awesome uniform, took to the streets to make the royal birth announcement.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald , the town crier wasn’t part of the official celebration. Nope, Tony Appleton, a 76-year-old Essex man and “professional” town crier took it upon himself to give the Royal Baby a proper Royal Arrival.
Appleton said: “Oyez, Oyez! We welcome a future king… On this day the 22 of July in the year 2013, we welcome… a future king. The firstborn of their royal highness the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Third in line to the throne. May he be long-lived happy and glorious and one day reign over us. God Save the Queen.”
Appleton may have not been a part of the official birth announcement but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have some sweet credits on his resume. Appleton performed at Kate Middleton and Prince Williams’ wedding, he was a the closing ceremony at the 2012 Olympics, and performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The Town Crier will also be on hand at Buckingham Palace when the Royal Family makes the official birth proclamation . Which is fantastic, because that means we can expect more of this.
