27-year-old Lee Kye-Hwa used microblogging service Twitter to post a sad, short message before taking his own life.
The former DJ, who police say was distraught over financial concerns, posted a 140 character suicide note:
“I’m going to commit suicide. To all of you, even those who shared the slightest friendship with me, I love you,” he wrote.
Kye-Hwa’s family reported the man missing on Sunday, and police in Seoul said that he was found hanging at a ferry dock on the Han river:
“Investigators concluded he had committed suicide,” a spokesman for Seoul’s Mapo police station said, confirming the wording of the Twitter posting.
The Telegraph reports that Lee’s Twitter followers tried to locate the man and reach out to him following the troubling posting, but were unsuccessful. When news of Kye-Hwa’s death was confirmed, his friends took to Twitter to express their grief:
“I wish he may rest in peace in Heaven, my heart is deeply hurt,” one wrote.
As of today, Kye-Hwa’s Twitter account is no longer accessible. The Korean DJ isn’t the first Twitter user to reach out on the service before a suicide- a Florida woman named Heather Newman posted this message shortly before she shot herself as she faced eviction from her home in Tamarac:
“The rich get richer, poor get poorer, families on the street, govt doesn’t care. God bless the usa, but can He save it?”
