A new survey shows that, not only do teens love smartphones , but they appear to love them more than any other age group.

While young adults aged 25 to 34 own more smartphones than any other age group, the new study by Nielsen shows that teens aged 13 to 17 are picking up smartphones at a much faster rate than young adults, reports CNet . The Nielsen study says that:

“Interestingly, teenagers between 13 and 17 years old demonstrated the most dramatic increases in smartphone adoption, with the majority of American teens (58%) owning a smartphone… compared to roughly a third (36%) of teens saying they owned a smartphone just a year ago.”

And they just seem to be getting younger. The Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center performed a study in April and found that 20 percent of third grade students have cell phones while 83 percent of middle school kids have a mobile device.

The number of smartphone users in general has also increased; 55 percent of mobile users in the US own a smartphone, up from 41 percent a year ago. NBC News notes as well that Americans are opting for Android phones more often than any other phone, also according to the Nielsen study.

Teens also reflect the same preferences as their parents, with the majority of American teens using Android devices, followed by iPhones. As for other devices? Teens are tending to use Blackberry phones twice as often as adults, indicating that they may be getting hand-me-down smartphones from their parents while Mom and Dad upgrade to the newer, more expensive models.
