Guitar Hero Granny Fights Off Intruders

Fort Wayne, IN – A Guitar Hero playing granny fought off several intruders who barged into her Fort Wayne, Indiana home Sunday.

Melinda Walker was at home with her 5-year-old grandson when three men charged into the residence and demanded cash and valuables. According to the Huffington Post , the three young men had the strings on their hoodies drawn nearly closed so to conceal their faces. They claimed to have a gun.

Although the intruders claimed to have a gun, the grandmother didn’t recall seeing one. Instead Walker noticed what she thought was the handle of a hammer.

The door had been unlocked because Walker was anticipating the child’s father to arrive.

Driven solely by the instinct of getting the three men away from her grandchild, the Guitar Hero granny grabbed one of the game’s iconic guitar-like controllers. She effectively used it as a weapon.

“This [Guitar Hero] video game controller was laying on the floor. And I just reached down and picked it up and I told them to get the hell out of my house,” reports WANE.com .

Walker began swinging the plastic guitar about, allowing her to fight off the intruders. “‘Get out of my house. Get out of my house!’ I just kept smacking one of them.”

Walker managed to push one of the three intruders down the stairs. The trio, who Walker guessed to be between 15 and 21 years of age, fled the home without taking anything. They sped off in a champagne colored, older style sedan.

This would have been the third robbery on Walker. Walker said she was sick and tired of her home being picked as a target. “I may not be a strong woman. I may not be a well woman, but you’re not going to get my stuff.” Last time thieves got away with her flat screen TV. This time it was more personal.

A granny with a Guitar Hero controller is not to be messed with.

Walker isn’t the only defiant granny to be in recent news. In a similar story, a 96-year-old store owner, Margaretta Wolf, came face-to-face with knife-wielding man who demanded cash. Refusing to become a victim, Wolf stood her ground and instead offered the would-be robber all of her Tootsie rolls. Wolf didn’t give up the cash.
