Blake Shelton lives and works in Hollywood, but him and wife Miranda Lambert still have the best dates while they are at home.
Shelton tells Men’s Journal magazine , in its August issue, that setting foot in his Oklahoma home refreshed his soul.
“As soon as we’re done on Wednesdays, my a** is on the plane,” Shelton says about filming NBC’s The Voice . The new season debuts Sept. 23 and reunites him with returning original judges Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine.
Aguilera and Green took a break last season to work on different projects and were replaced by Colombian singer Shakira and rapper Usher. Adam Levine has been a judge from the start of the show.
Shelton and wife Miranda Lambert own a “small prairie fiefdom” in Johnston County, Oklahoma, near a small town called Tishomingo and to emphasize just how small the place really is Blake Shelton adds,
“There’s a Dollar General, on Main Street, and a Family Dollar. And if you can’t find what you need there, the closest Walmart is, 15 miles away.”
So what makes a “hot date” for the famous country couple?
“Throwing a cooler in the back of the pickup and driving around the property clearing brush and singing to the radio,” says Shelton, who says he enjoys a few drinks at home and even on-set. “Or else having dinner at the all-you-can-eat rib buffet and dessert at Dairy Queen. When we get home, we like to be home.”
Pretty amazing considering the couple is up there in popularity in the country music world. Shelton has been in the headlines recently for winning The Voice for the third time with 16-year-old Danielle Bradbery.
Shelton and Lambert spend six months in Los Angeles due to work obligations he says he’s not buying a house there.
“There’s something about owning a house here that makes it official,” he says.
