As was reported earlier in The Inquisitr , Victor Cruz, New York Giants receiver, tweeted some pretty nasty stuff in the wake of the Zimmerman verdict.
His NFL colleague, Atlanta Falcons Roddy White is known for speaking his mind, and his tweets on the case were no different. But Cruz is a little more subdued in his remarks in general.
His original tweet, which has since been deleted, read,
“Zimmerman doesn’t last a year til the hood catches up to him.”
He must have gotten a lot of heat for his tweet, because he not only deleted it, but on Sunday he felt the need to clear up his image a bit and explain himself.
For the ones that know the receiver, his tweet was completely out of character. According to Victor Cruz’s apology tweets he was reacting to what he was reading on Twitter.
He admits he immediately realized it was wrong and hence deleted the post.
“I believe conversation not confrontation leads to change and progress. I never have and never will advocate violence under any circumstances and I pray that we all encourage and educate each other.” the Giants player states.
He goes on to explain that, as a father, he wants his daughter to grow up in a country that “uses this tragedy to heal and grow and progress”.
This is more like something Cruz would articulate, but it doesn’t excuse the initial wish of violence against Zimmerman.
The problem with heat of the moment social media posts is that you can’t really take them back, well you can, but not after getting in some trouble.
