The hashtag named #Recount2016 is surging along on Twitter, with new fundraising goals for Jill Stein’s recount efforts being hit continually. The Green Party former presidential candidate who is Stein did not detail specific evidence of the alleged hacking controversy surrounding the # Recount2016 efforts, reports NBC News, however, that fact did not stop the Green Party from raising a considerable amount of recount funds in a short period.
Stein initially raised $2.5 million, as reported by The Verge, an amount that would help fund the vote recounting efforts in three pivotal states in question?: Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. As of Thanksgiving Day, that amount had swelled nearly by another $1 million to $3.2 million out of a new $4.5 million fundraising goal.
The last-minute voting recount efforts, as reported by BBC News, ?were begun by the former presidential candidate after Donald Trump’s narrow win over Hillary Clinton was questioned by experts who analyzed certain troubling trends in a few states. Whereas news about Clinton winning the popular vote by at least two million votes and counting spreads, the news about troubling trends in certain states is also trending surrounding the heated presidential election.
Stein wants to investigate the voting hacking claims, reports CNN .
The audit will be funded by the monies raised to closely examine the results of the November 8 election — and clear up confusion about any irregular patterns in the results received from Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Stein is a doctor from Massachusetts who ran on a Green Party platform that emphasized aggressive policies to avoid disasters Stein viewed could happen if climate change issues and other issues were dealt with in her failed bid for the presidency.
Meanwhile, Stein’s fundraising efforts for the #Recount2016 have been very successful, with some of the text from Stein’s fundraising page excerpted below.
“Election Integrity depends on YOU! – Recounts in WI, PA, & MI: Because of you, the first recount is funded. We have two more to go!
“Congratulations on meeting the recount costs for Wisconsin! Raising money to pay for the first round so quickly is a miraculous feat and a tribute to the power of grassroots organizing. Now that we have completed funding Wisconsin’s recount (which is due on Friday), we can begin to tackle the funding for Pennsylvania’s recount (due Monday) and then Michigan’s recount (due Wednesday). The breakdown of these costs is described below.
“On November 23, the Stein/Baraka Green Party Campaign launched an effort to ensure the integrity of our elections. With your help, we are raising money to demand recounts in these three states where the data suggests a significant need to verify machine-counted vote totals. In true grassroots fashion, we’re turning to you, the people, and not big-money corporate donors to make this happen.
“Your immediate support is crucial – Please donate now and share widely.”
On social media, some Trump supporters are even applauding the recounting efforts and joking that the recount efforts will only solidify President-elect Trump’s win. Others are praising the recounting efforts as an endeavor that might reveal inconsistencies that data experts claim Clinton’s campaign should follow through upon in the three battleground states.
The results of the recount efforts should reveal if any sort of a cyberattack was used to hack electronic voting machines during the presidential election.
Stein’s fundraising page went on to explain how recounting efforts in 2004 undertook by the Cobb/LaMarche campaign in Ohio resulted in the jailing of an election official. Extra monies raised will help reform the voting system. The voting recount total amounts needed by state — along with the deadlines for each state — are listed as follows on Stein’s fundraising page.
