Comedy Central is going to be staging a five-day comedy “festival” that will truly be recognized as one of a kind. The network is planning on putting on this festival using social media supersite Twitter as the platform.
This particular endeavor isn’t going to some small time affair either. Among the comedians who are gearing up to participate are some of the most well known funny men and women in the business.
Old timers like Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner will be showing their stuff alongside young guns like Amy Schumer and Paul Feig. The performers won’t just be firing off text based one liners either.
Comedy Central and Twitter are teaming up in a way that really shows off how social media is changing from a place where people talk almost exclusively through print.Twitter has already rolled out their music app as a way for people to do more than simply fire off the latest thoughts that occurred to them.
Comedians who choose to participate will be using the social network’s popular Vine video service in order to record their little jokes and segments. Those who want to make longer videos can also do so and post them to their Twitter accounts.
Using the hashtag, #ComedyFest comedians will be able to post their acts for the entire Twitterverse to see. There will apparently also be at least one live event and a panel in which Judd Apatow and a few other young guns try to convince some of the older hands to actually join the social networking site.
While there hasn’t been an official start dated announced, the festival is rumored to be starting up later this week and users will have to just keep an eye out for the first tweets.
