Nokia has officially announced their newest internet tablet the Nokia N900, a tablet that features an ARM Cortex-A8 Processor, 1GB RAM and 32GB on-board storage.

The tablet also features Maemo 5, a critically lauded light weight operating system. Here’s what Nokia had to say about it:

Running on the new Maemo 5 software, the Nokia N900 empowers users to have dozens of application windows open and running simultaneously while taking full advantage of the cellular features, touch screen and QWERTY keyboard.

The N900 will also offer crisp video and photo playback on it’s 3.5 inch WVGA resistive touchscreen, while offering the new Nokia Messaging “cloud” UI.

Adding to the excitement is the included slide-out Qwerty keyboard, full Adobe Flash 9.4 support, access to the OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics accelerator and a microSD card slot which allows users to extend overall memory capabilities to 48GB.

In true Nokia Smartphone fashion the tablet also features a 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss Optics and a dual-LED flash. I would have liked to see a Xenon flash option, but given it’s an internet tablet I’m not complaining too much.

The N900 also features a GPS receiver for geotagging and comes in at a decent size of 110.9 x 59.8 x 18 mm with a weight of 181g, while also offering WiFi and 3G data connectivity options.

Nokia is still estimating the cost which they’ve put at €500 ($712) when it lands in October 2009. Although it will only be available in “select markets” at the time of launch.

Here’s a few videos featuring the N900:
