A big part of being a geek is the accumulation of many, many gadgets requiring USB Power. We end up buying hubs to support them all. There are a lot of really strange USB hubs , but the 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub by Satechi isn’t one of the weird ones. It’s actually quite cool.
It looks like a power strip.
On top it has nine USB ports split into three groups of three. It also has three power switches (one for each group of three ports). The power switches keep the hub from leaking energy when you’re not using them to power gadgets .
Each group of three ports has a glowing blue LED light when the power switch is on. Each individual port also has its own LED light that comes on when the port is charging or powering a device.
A 10th port on one end of the Satechi hub is more powerful to charge an iPad. iPad chargers can charge other devices faster so you could use it to charge something else when you’re in a rush. The 10th port has its own power switch too.
The Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub looks bigger than it is in the photo. It is 8.69? long, 1.75? wide, and 1.06? tall. You can get a better sense of the size if you take a look at the video below.
To use the hub, your computer needs to have a USB 3.0 port. USB 3.0 has the same connector as previous USB standards, but it provides much faster file transfer speed and is more power efficient. It’s 10 times faster than Hi-Speed USB.
