Sarah Henderson is accused of shooting her two young daughters to death, and now, new details are emerging about the mother that neighbors said had a short temper with the girls.
The 29-year-old mother was arrested this week for the shooting deaths of her 5-year-old and 7-year-old daughters, with police saying she shot the girls in the head while they slept. As WFAA reported, 911 dispatchers received a call from Henderson’s husband that his wife was suicidal. Deputies arrived to find no problems, but hours later he called back again, this time frantically telling dispatchers that Sarah Henderson had murdered the two young girls.
Sarah Henderson may have also been giving in to delusions, family members hinted. One told WFAA that she had been acting erratically in recent weeks, and believed that people were after her.
There is also evidence that Child Protective Services may have investigated Henderson in the past. A spokeswoman for CPS said that the family had contact with the department in 2010, but did not release details of those interactions. Police were also called to the home in 2015 for a verbal dispute, the Washington Post reported, but arrived to find Sarah Henderson arguing loudly on a phone in her backyard.
While family and neighbors hinted that Sarah Henderson may have been falling into mental illness, it appeared that the murder of her two young daughters may have been pre-meditated. As the Washington Post noted, investigators said Henderson had planned for at least two weeks to kill her children, and also intended to kill her husband as well. But police said that the woman’s gun malfunctioned when she tired to kill her husband, Jacob.
Sarah Henderson was arraigned for two counts of capital murder and is being held on $2 million bond. If convicted, Henderson could face life in prison or the death penalty. She is reportedly under suicide watch in jail.
