The Samsung Galaxy S smartphone line of devices has toppled 100 million global sales. The South Korean electronics manufacturer announced on Monday that the milestone was reached in just two years and seven months. The original Samsung Galaxy S launched in May 2010.

Sales have been most helped along by the incredibly successful Samsung Galaxy S III. That device with its 4.8-inch super-crisp display and fast microprocessor has managed to sell 40 million units in just 7 months.

The Samsung Galaxy S II has also managed an impressive run with more than 40 million units sold over a 20-month period. While the Samsung Galaxy S III has stolen much of the spotlight, the Samsung Galaxy S II remains on sale, and the company recently announced plans for a Samsung Galaxy S II Plus model.

Up next for Samsung is the Galaxy S IV , a device that is expected to deliver a 5-inch display with 1080p Super AMOLED capabilities that output at 441 pixels per inch. Rumors for the next Samsung smartphone also point to a quad-core Exynos 5440 processor and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. The device is also rumored to come with an S Pen.

While Samsung will not reveal its new smartphone until March or April of this year, the company is already celebrating its new sales records, which have surpassed Apple iPhone 5 expectations.

Do you think Samsung will continue to grab a larger chunk of the Smartphone market from Apple and its other competitors?
