Republican candidate and president-elect Donald Trump appears to be wavering on his pre-elections promises, especially pertaining to Obamacare.

Donald Trump hinted that the President Obama’s signature health care law, the Affordable Care Act, does have multiple salient points. It is quite likely Trump may eventually assimilate quite a few of them in his iteration of the federal health program, popularly referred to as Trumpcare. Additionally, within days of winning the general elections, the president-elect put “Lock Her Up” on the backburner, claiming he wanted to focus on “healthcare, jobs, border control, and tax reform.”

A single meeting with the current and outgoing president of the United States, Barack Obama, may have significantly mellowed out the aggressive persona Donald Trump exhibited during his election campaign. Without a hint of his flamboyant and boisterous attitude, Trump calmly noted that Obama’s sincere request had compelled him to rethink his stand on repealing Obamacare. Needless to say, Trump had time and again reiterated his conviction towards repealing the finer aspects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). He routinely labeled the 2010 law “a disaster,” and always vowed scrapping it would be one of his priorities when he becomes the 45th president of the United States.

During an interview with the Wall Street Journal , Trump noted that he was impressed with several popular provisions in the ACA. He even hinted that he was considering the two most appreciated points, including the one that lets parents keep adult children up to age 26 on insurance policies, and barring insurers from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions.

Will Donald Trump repeal Obamacare? Scrapping of the healthcare and insurance might take place in the near future. However, given the much softer stance Trump appears to have taken against the act , it is quite likely the changes will be cosmetic. As usual, after his meeting with Obama, when Trump was asked about the hotly debated topic, his response to the question was quite cryptic.

“I told him I will look at his suggestions, and out of respect, I will do that. Either Obamacare will be amended, or repealed and replaced.”

Additionally, in an interview with CBS News’ Lesley Stahl on 60 Minutes , Trump openly admitted that Obamacare’s mandate that people with pre-existing conditions will still be covered is “one of the strongest assets.”

Hence, after assuming the duties of the Commander-in-Chief, Trump will most likely rebrand Obamacare and rechristen it. If Donald Trump’s real estate ventures are any indications, it is quite likely that the same healthcare act could now be referred to as Trumpcare.

Obamacare has worked for thousands of Americans. While it may not be absolutely perfect, the federal program has enabled several American families to survive hard times brought on by severe illness of a family member. Unfortunately, the insurance’s most salient aspects are the ones that are forcing the revision of the premiums, observed Trump. The Inquisitr had reported on the common feeling of disappointment among Americans about the revision of healthcare premiums. Quite a few U.S. citizens openly grumbled after receiving letters from the government which notified them about the increase in the payment towards Obamacare , reported ABC News .

Interestingly, Donald Trump’s comments on Obamacare proved to be a large windfall for the government’s partners in Obamacare. The companies who actually extend the insurance witnessed a barrage of signups. More than 100,000 Americans rushed to buy health insurance under the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday, the biggest turnout yet during this year’s sign-up period, reported the New York Times .

In his trademark style, Trump has promised a replacement to Obamacare that will offer “great healthcare for much less money.” However, the only way he can achieve the same is by cutting out the most popular features of Obamacare.

Ever since Trump has been elected as the 45th president of the United States, he hasn’t assured his supporters that he will keep the promises, however absurd they may seem, that got him elected in the first place. The richest ever president-elect with a altruistic mindset takes charge at a very critical juncture for the healthcare industry. Hence, it is quite likely he won’t rock the boat too much with his radical pre-election ideas and promises regarding Obamacare.
