A new glove devolped by Med Sensation, called the Glove Tricorder, aims to help doctors and patients diagnose breast cancer and other problems like enlarged kidneys and other sub-dermal problems.
According to MedSensation.com , the Glove Tricorder will eventually allow patients and doctors to diagnose their own illnesses. The glove’s interface will take data from a physical exam and use it as a component of automated diagnosis. The automated diagnosis will help in diagnosing breast cancer and other problems earlier, which will help save a lot of lives.
The Glove Tricorder uses various types of sensors to get the data needed from the physical exam. The sensors include accelerometers, temperature, force, sound, and vibration sensors. The glove allows doctors to “quantify touch,” allowing them to tell exactly what they’re doing right and wrong during examinations. For example, if a trainee is squeezing too hard or is not in the right position, the glove can then give that feedback to an instructor.
Med Sensation’s future plan is to add ultrasound probes to the glove in the future.
“Soon everyone will have a glove that can be used to assess a sports injury or can be used to do self-clinical breast exams. In the future we will be able to augment a human’s ability to diagnosis illness, by adding sensors such as ultrasound probes that will be able to integrate the data and provide real-time assessment of heart valve abnormalities, abdominal pain, and much more without having to go to medical facility,” the founders state.
TechCrunch.com reports that the Glove Tricorder is part of a graduate studies program at Singularity University. It was founded by a Harvard medical student, Andrew Bishara, and two engineers, Elishai Ezra and Fransiska Hadiwidjana.
