The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 was unveiled during Mobile World Congress in February and now the Android-powered tablet is set to finally release in the United States next month.
When the tablet first showed up at CES it featured a slot for an S Pen and ran on a dual-core processor. The model going on sale in August however has been upgraded to feature the Samsung quad-core Exynos 4112, 2GB RAM and an integrated S Pen slot.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 also features a 1280×800 PLS TFT display that shows off Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) that operates with the help of Samsung’s state of the art S Pen and S Pen optimized apps. With the S Pen users can drag and drop between two open windows and take advantage of shape recognition. The S Pen can also recognize hand written formulas and convert them to text (see the video below).
The Galaxy Note 10.1 also includes a 5-megapixel camera.
Samsung has not yet announced official pricing for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 although it is expected to cost somewhere in the vicinity of $500, putting it squarely in competition with the Apple iPad in terms of pricing.
In the meantime Samsung and Apple continue to battle over various patent infringements Apple claims Samsung committed in designing its smartphone and tablet devices. The original Samsung Galaxy Tab in some countries was ordered to stop sales following lawsuits with Apple.
