Tori Spelling says she is doing fine financially. The True Tori star and her husband Dean McDermott work hard for their money , and Tori says they have enough of it. In an interview with People, Spelling said rumors about her finances have been exaggerated ever since she tried to write a “relatable” chapter in her 2013 book, Spelling It Like It is .
“It was one chapter. I thought I was being relatable, talking about how celebrities go through financial struggles, too, we make mistakes, too. We’re not perfect, we have made a lot of choices financially with real estate that didn’t work out… and that just escalated into this story about financial struggles, bankruptcy. To this day that haunts me!”
While there were rumors earlier this year that Tori was in trouble with American Express, and that the credit card company was suing her for failing to pay an outstanding balance of $37,981.97, Spelling says the story is overblown.
“I just want that story to go away! We’re doing a great new series, I’m really happy, we’re doing a new show on Cooking Channel – we’re not bankrupt, we’re not struggling, we’re fine!”
In the interview, Tori also says that she and her husband work really hard and are “constantly out there working.” She said it’s important to her that all four of her kids see both parents are working, and she said she and Dean openly talk about money with their brood.
Tori is the daughter of the late TV mogul Aaron Spelling, and she said money was never talked about in her childhood home, a detail that could explain why she has had some financial issues in the past.
“I don’t blame anyone, but that probably set me up for not knowing too much about how to handle money a little bit, and I don’t want the same thing to happen with my children, so we’re open about stuff.”
In addition to dealing with rumors about their money woes, Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott are known for their frequent moves. In fact, they seem to be serial renters, which is another reason why people assume they have financial problems. Tori explained that her family moved back to Encino, California, yet again last month simply because the owner of the Calabasas home they were living in wanted to sell it.
According to Wetpaint , Tori and Dean have moved their family seven times in five years . Their latest Encino property is 3,900 square feet, with five bedrooms and rents for $7,500 a month. The couple previously sold their home in Encino in 2011, then moved to Malibu and sold that house, then started renting in the gated community of Lake Sherwood before moving to another rental in Tarzana, California in 2013. The family then moved back to Encino before going to the gated Calabasas Estates, and the heading back to their current home in Encino. Exhausted yet?
It sounds like the couple definitely likes Encino, and in the People interview Tori said they are trying to figure out the best area for schools for their children. Spelling also teased that there could be another moving van in her family’s future.
“We’re trying to figure out the area… The kids are in different schools right now: preschool, elementary school, they’re moving, so we’re trying to find the perfect area. I mean, it’s just a rental, so don’t be surprised if we move again, guys!”
