Less than 24-hours after a police involved shooting in Anaheim, California spawned protests, a different police officer shot and killed a suspect late Sunday evening. A marked police car attempting to pull over another vehicle on West Guinida Lane, near Interstate 5, resulted in a high-speed chase. The suspect lost control of his car and crashed into a sidewalk curb near a vacant lot in Anaheim, the Los Angeles Times reports.
After the Anaheim police chase ended, one woman and two men fled on foot from the accident scene. One of the male suspects fired at the Anaheim police officer, who returned fire. The suspect, who had aimed a handgun at the Anaheim officer, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second police officer captured the second male suspect, but area law enforcement agencies are still searching for the woman who fled from the scene. The most recent Anaheim police officer involved shooting comes on the heels of the death of 25-year-old Manuel Diaz.
The shooting death of Diaz prompted a large-scale community protest. Two Anaheim police officers were placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the Los Angeles area shooting.
Protesters of the Manuel Diaz shooting reportedly converged upon the Anaheim Police Station yesterday as Police Chief John Welter prepared for a press conference to share details of the fatal police involved shooting. Anaheim protesters shouted, “No justice, no peace,” and carried signs calling for “Justice for Manuel,” according to the Orange County Register.
Anaheim Police Sgt. Bob do not appear to be related.
