Google on Tuesday announced the expansion of its World Wonders Project to including several famous locations in Antarctica. While most of us will probably never visit the icy region the search giant wanted to showcase popular destinations for explorers and scientists.

Featured images on Street Views Antarctica include the Shackleton’s Hut, Scott’s Hut and the Ceremonial South Pole.

Taking pictures in Antarctica proved to be challenging because of extreme weather conditions. To combat the weather Google representatives put down their regular Street View camera and picked up a lightweight camera with a fisheye lens, the same camera they use for the Google Business Photos program.

This is not the first time Google has traveled into remote locations for the World Wonders Project, previously Google had hopped on the Rhaetian Railways train and captured 76 miles of the Albuna-Bernina line through the Swiss Alps.

Google has been working on the year-long project in order to showcase world heritage sites and other important locations that most of us would never get to see without Google’s help. The World Wonders project is meant to show visitors destinations that are not just rich in culture but in many cases nearly impossible to visit, for example the South Pole.

If you are interested in learning more about the project you can find information via the Google Official Blog.

Google plans to continue to project, adding more hard to reach destinations to its ever-growing collection of locations around the world, both in hard to reach locations and culturally relevant spots.
