A custom firmware based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update was released for Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Owners of the 2013 phablet released by the South Korean tech giant can now opt to install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update through FlymeOS ROM , according to Team Android. This firmware allows the users to fully customize their mobile device. It also provides a smooth and stable performance.

Particularly, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom firmware is compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note 3 LTE variant, which bears the model number N9005. At launch, the phablet came pre-installed with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. It became upgradable to Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. Currently, according to GSM Arena’s specs list for the smartphone, Note 3 can only be officially updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware.

Upon installing FlymeOS ROM on Samsung Galaxy Note 3, users will be able to enjoy a CyanogenMod stock-based Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update as well as other features such as the Flyme Camera. It also brings in SPEN features and includes Google apps. Support for custom font and custom DPI, as well as Adblocker, are available on this custom ROM.

Since this is not an official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update release, users are expected to be extra careful as they proceed with the installation process. There are also several installation requirements to ascertain that the custom Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update process will be successful. For one, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 users are highly advised to create a backup of all the data and settings stored on the device. The desktop tool called Samsung KIES is one way to back up phone’s files and settings. In addition, there are custom recovery tools online like ClockWorkMod that can also guarantee a safe backup for the phone.

Battery level is also of significance when it comes to updating the mobile device. The battery of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 should be 80 percent or higher before its firmware can be upgraded to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update via the FlymeOS custom ROM. Also, to avoid issues when connecting the Galaxy Note 3 to the PC during installation, users need to enable USB Debugging mode first. Appropriate and latest USB driver for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 should also be installed on the computer before installing the latest Android Lollipop OS via custom firmware.

FlymeOS is just one of the many custom ROMs available that released Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Phablet users can also consider the highly popular CyanogenMod ROM and other custom firmwares such as SmokkieROM, Darklord, Aurora, and Phronesis if they are eyeing to get a firmware update.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 hit the shelves on September 2013. Aside from the distinctive feature from the Galaxy Note line, which is the S-Pen Stylus, the phablet is also equipped with Super AMOLED display screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920p. Having a pixel density of 386 ppi, Note 3 was protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, the 2013 Samsung phablet, specifically the N9005 model, is packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and a Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 CPU paired with Adreno 330 GPU.

Meanwhile, based on recent reports, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will not be getting the latest mobile OS from Google. A screenshot of an update guide was posted on The Hoops News showing that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update was “not approved” for the phablet. The online publication also showed an image featuring a list of smartphone models confirmed to receive the Marshmallow update in which the Galaxy Note 3 is not included.
