Ted Cruz may have just knocked himself out of the presidential running with the derogatory “New York values” comment he spewed at Donald Trump before, as well as during, the Republican debate last week.
“Everybody understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal and pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage. And focus on money and the media.”
According to the New York Times, this remark did nothing for Ted Cruz but to alienate those who live in the Big Apple. What most likely was meant as a slam against Trump, turned around and landed back in the lap of Ted Cruz .

Though Ted Cruz went through the motions of offering an apology to the offended city, most find his weak attempt to apologize as atrocious as his original comment. Rather than acting even the tiniest bit sorry for his own actions, he took the opportunity to attack the New York government officials, reports the New York Daily News.
“You’re right, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio have asked me to apologize. I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who’ve been let down by liberal politicians.”

Ted Cruz said he’s sorry for all those “denied jobs because Gov. Cuomo won’t allow fracking.” Regarding Mayor de Blasio, he’s also sorry to all the “African American children who Mayor de Blasio tried to throw out of their charter schools that were providing a pipeline to American Dream.”
Donald Trump quickly came to the defense of New Yorkers, citing their strength and courage during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
One question stirring through the minds of many Ted Cruz followers is why he has endured so much criticism for offending one city when Donald Trump has made a career of offending the vast majority of the population at one time or another. Quite frankly, Ted Cruz does not have the strength of character and leadership that Trump possesses.
Typically, Donald Trump is in the midst of speaking about an issue when his statements against certain people are taken offensively. Also, many times the media is the most “angered” by these remarks. For example, when Trump spoke about needing a wall at our Mexican border, and the desire to send people who are in our country illegally back where they came from, the media created a firestorm response.
I think, however, that most regular people understood that Trump was not condemning the entire Mexican population, only those who have broken the law. When looked at this way, his remark makes sense.
Ted Cruz does not seem to hold the authority and respect that he needs to pull off statements of this caliber. And it was probably not the best idea to try to beat The Donald at his own game. Senator Ted Cruz failed miserably in this endeavor, and likely cost himself some votes from New Yorkers, as well.
The battle is heating up with the first primary quickly approaching next month. Will Ted Cruz remain in the running, or has he just handed the nomination to Trump?
