Former NBA star Dennis Rodman , known for his flamboyant off-court shenanigans, was sentenced to 104 hours of community service and three years of informal probation Tuesday after being found guilty of four counts of contempt for neglecting to pay child support.
Although the judge didn’t order it, attorneys for Michelle Rodman are still seeking over $800,000 in back child support from the Hall of Famer. Rodman will also have to appear in court again on June 22 for an additional contempt charge.
Barry Michaelson, a Supreme Court Commissioner in Orange County, told Rodman that he should put his talents as an athlete to use. “My suggestion is to use your talents as a motivator, as a fine, fine athlete and as a fine person to assist others in need,” Michaelson said.
Rodman, now 51, had a successful career in the NBA for 14 years, but the former star is now broke , according to Peggy Williams, Rodman’s attorney and financial adviser.
“In all honesty, Dennis, although a very sweet person, is an alcoholic,” Williams said earlier this year (via LA Times ). “His sickness impacts his ability to get work.”
