Google rolling out new logos, dropping beta tags

Google has started rolling out new logos for its range of services, and is finally dropping the beta tag on a range of sites.

The new Google logos include the standard Google logo to the left, with the name of the product in large type to the right, as opposed to underneath and small.

Google says of the new logos “we hope this design freshens up our look as well as improves consistency and ease of use across our sites. Now, our product names will appear in clean, simple blue lowercase type alongside the Google logo.”

The biggest change is Google finally starting to drop the beta tag from a range of services. In the shot above, the Google Docs logo doesn’t have a beta tag, where it currently does. They don’t specify which services will lose the beta tag, but given the styling you’d think it would be most services that currently have it.

An example of the new logos in the wild can be seen on Google Code.
