Nick Jonas has been very enthusiastic about his new role in the show Scream Queens . The show, which debuted September 23, tells the story of a college campus that’s been beset by a series of murders. Jonas says he was happy to work with Ryan Murphy, whose past successes include Glee , American Horror Story , and Nip/Tuck . He told CBS News that he had “a lot of fun” doing the show.
Nick Jonas plays Boone , a fraternity brother who is also gay. It’s the second time Nick has played a gay character on TV, the first being Nate Kulina in Kingdom . Playing Kulina, which required him to gain and lose a great deal of weight and muscle, might have been physically taxing, but Jonas thrived in the role.
Nick Jonas was especially empathetic in how he was “honored” to play two gay characters.
“Whatever I can do for the (LGBT) community is just a blessing for me.”
Ariana Grande, the other pop star on the show along with Nick Jonas, died in her first hour on screen, but the show’s creator is very clear she will be coming back. Nick Jonas’ character also appeared to succumb, but at the end it was revealed that he was working with the killer and not just a victim.
There’s news on the music front for Nick Jonas as well. His third solo album will be released sometime in 2016, in either February or March, although no formal date has been picked yet. “Levels,” which was released in August, is going to be among the new tracks. Nick reported that there are soul, R&B, and rap influences in the new songs, and is “digging deep” for new ways to express himself in music.
Nick had nothing but good words for his brother Joe Jonas as well. The other Jonas has just released a new song, “Cake By the Ocean,” with his new band DNCE. Nick Jonas insisted there was no bad feeling among the brothers, who disbanded the hugely successful Jonas Brothers in 2013. Will the Jonas brothers reunite? Nick can’t say yes at this point, but he said that all the brothers are supportive of the new directions each are taking solo while also giving each other space to do their own thing.
And for those who are wondering: according to Nick Jonas, he thinks he will be shirtless in Scream Queens more often than Kingdom , but he can’t say that for sure.
