Knowing which employee is sticking around and which one is looking for something better is a problem that every company faces. It is also a problem that is especially important when it comes to companies that rely on hard to replace employees. So being able to figure out which of those most valuable employees might hit the road could provide a company a distinct advantage.
This is the problem that Google is facing and dealing with in their typical analytical fashion – they’re crunching the numbers. It should come as no real surprise that they are boiling everything down to a algorithm to help pick out which of their employees are potentially leaving the company. While the company is extremely reluctant to share any details of the algorithm they do say it has already identified employees who are feeling under utilized.
Google’s algorithm helps the company “get inside people’s heads even before they know they might leave,” said Laszlo Bock, who runs human resources for the company.
