After John Cena and Sting teamed up to take on Seth Rollins and Big Show on this week’s Monday Night RAW , Cena did something that brought tears to the eyes of many in the crowd: he pointed out and congratulated a 7-year-old girl for beating cancer .
“We have a special fighter in the house. We have a young lady who is 7-years-old, and she just got some amazing news. She has been fighting quite a tough battle, and I’m proud to announce that she won!”
For the past nine months, Kiara Grindrod has been battling cancer after doctors found a tumor on her cerebellum. She recently learned that she was now cancer-free, and Cena wanted to make sure young Kiara and her family had a WWE experience they wouldn’t soon forget.
When the cameras shut off after the main event of RAW , John Cena felt compelled to call out to young Kiara and let her know that the WWE universe was pulling for her.
“On behalf of Sting, myself and every person behind that screen, we sincerely want to thank you for being our guest tonight, for being an inspiration to not only us in the ring, but every single person outside the ring and around the world. You’re seven years old and I am proud to say, you have beat the battle against cancer.”
Cena then put down the microphone and went out into the stands to congratulate the little girl in person. The wrestler gave Kiara and her family hugs and presented the young cancer survivor with gifts. John Cena was followed out by Sting, who presented Kiara with one of his gloves.
This isn’t the first time John Cena has touched fans by singling out young cancer survivors. In June, after spotting a young boy holding a sign that read “I’m beating cancer,” Cena gave a speech referencing his “never give up” catchphrase and mentioned the young boy.
“If I say or if I wear the words ‘never give up,’ not only am I telling the truth, but I am encouraging young and old, all alike, like that person right there to do the exact same thing.”
Cena then invited the young cancer survivor into the ring with him. Cena let the fan hold the United State Champion belt while he saluted the young fan. John Cena may be a tough guy when he’s in the ring, but every so often, he reminds us that even WWE champions have soft sides.
