The so-called “Hot Debate Guy” — that is, a handsome young man present at Wednesday night’s GOP debate — has become the latest internet meme, ET Online is reporting .

Thanks to social media, anybody can become a meme on the internet these days, just by virtue of being in the right place at the right time (remember Ridiculously Photogenic Guy?). And thanks to some fortuitous seat placement that put him directly behind moderator Jake Tapper’s right shoulder (from the camera’s point of view), the stars lined up for Hot Debate Guy to capture the hearts of millions around the world.

The well-groomed young fellow with sharp facial features, a tailored suit, and Ivy-League good looks caught the eyes of men and women, conservative and liberal alike, and soon the hashtag #HotDebateGuy quickly became a trending topic on Twitter.

And now, thanks to some investigating, the identity of Hot Debate Guy can be revealed: his name is Gregory Caruso, and he’s 24-years-old, the son of billionaire real estate developer Rick Caruso. CNN describes him as an aspiring filmmaker , whose presence on social media is all but zero (he has neither a Facebook nor a Twitter account).
What seems to be clear is that Hot Debate Guy is definitely a Republican, telling CNN that he “looks up to” Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. Sorry, non-Republican ladies.
And as for the attention, Caruso thinks it’s a hoot.
“It’s pretty hilarious. Social media can focus on some guy at the debate instead of the debate.”
And if you’re thinking a good-looking, young Republican billionaire would make a good catch, you’re not alone.

Unfortunately, Hot Debate Guy wouldn’t comment on his relationship status.
Of course, not everyone was impressed by Caruso’s good looks. At least a few Twitter users (probably Democrats) found Hot Debate Guy’s looks off-putting.
