Nicky Jam is leading the charge at the new Latin American Music Awards with six total nominations.

Nicky is a strong contender in key categories like song of the year and artist of the year. For his “El Perdón,” featuring Enrique Iglesias, Jam is also a contender in the favorite streaming song category.

Nicky Jam is in a tie with J Balvin, who is a strong contender in the favorite male artist – urban and the artist of the year categories.

Calibre 50, Maná, and Romeo Santos have secured four nominations each. Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato are also contending for the favorite crossover artist and the favorite dance song awards.

The awards featuring Nicky Jams will air on Oct. 8 on Telemundo from Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles. Modeled after the American Music Awards, this is the first award show of its kind. There will be performances in both Spanish and English.

Il Volo, Gerardo Ortiz, and Gloria Trevi are some of the confirmed performers for the show.

The nominations have come from fan interactions with music, airplay, sales, social activity, and streaming.

The 42nd American Music Awards, on the other hand, took place in November 2014. Each fall, the show celebrates the greatest and the latest talents of the music industry.

Their website says , “The American Music Awards pays tribute to today’s most influential and iconic artists.” Performers in last year’s show included Selena Gomez, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, and Pitbull.

It is one of the biggest shows of its kind in the world. Viewers from across 160 countries watch the awards every year.

Nicky Jam has bagged many awards this year and this one-of-its-kind award show could bring him fresh new glories. L.A. Times said, “The Puerto Rican urban artist might also sweep the Latin AMAs; after all, with six nominations, he is the performer with the most nods!”

Nicky was born to a Dominican mother and a Puerto Rican father. Jam’s family moved from the U.S. to Puerto Rico when he was around six years old. He got his stage name “Nicky Jam” when a homeless man jokingly called him that.

He kickstarted his reggaeton career in Puerto Rico alongside Daddy Yankee, but things soon went off the track because of alcohol, drugs, and “bad decisions.”

Jam said to Billboard , “I wasn’t doing anything.” He added, “I felt I had so much talent and it was wasted.”

Nicky Jam’s first brush with fame came in 2001 when his album “Haciendo Escante” came out. However, he became an internationally recognized figure in the music industry only after the release of “Vida Escante.”

Voting for the Latin American Music Awards is currently going on and fans can cast their ballots here .
