No one knew Lucy Liu was expecting a baby until the 46-year-old actress posted a photo announcing his arrival to the world.
Liu’s son made his debut on Instagram in a tender black-and-white photo, posted with the announcement, “Introducing the new little man in my life, my son Rockwell Lloyd Liu ,” Page Six reported.
“Mom and baby are healthy and happy,” her rep added.
In the photo, the actress is cradling the child, bundled up cozily in a warm blanket; she gazes at him lovingly, as only a new mom can do.

The baby boy came into the world via gestational surrogate, her rep confirmed. The actress hadn’t hinted before his birth that the baby was on his way.
This is her first child.
Absent from the details about Rockwell’s birth: the reason why Lucy chose to have him via surrogate , the Los Angeles Times added. However, that discretion isn’t unusual — she has made a habit of keeping her private life away from the public’s probing eyes.
However, E! Online pointed to a 2010 interview with Lucy , in which she discussed motherhood and how she wasn’t in any rush to start a family. She joked at the time that her biological clock was busted.
“I don’t have a settling-down time. Someone threw out the battery. I never feel like it’s too early or too late for anything. I don’t ever think for me that this traditional way is the way to go for me because I haven’t had a traditional life.”
The newborn adds to Lucy’s small family, which includes a chocolate Labrador named Apple, who she has called “the apple of her eye.” If you look closely at the pic of her and Rockwell, you’ll see he’s wrapped in a blanket decorated in a dog print.

Since Liu is very private, there are few details about her current romantic status, but she has been linked to a few gentlemen in the past — hedge fund billionaire Noam Gottesman, actor Will McCormack, and playwright Zach Helm.
