‘NCIS’ Season 13 Spoilers: Will Jon Cryer’s Dr. Taft Save Gibbs?

NCIS season 12 ended with more than one cliffhanger, and Gibbs’ life was hanging in the balance. The Calling was still very much a threat and had already put the wheels in motion for the next target. The latest casting news teases just how one of those cliffhangers will be wrapped up in season 13.

As NCIS season 12 ended, Gibbs, Tony and Dorneget’s mother, Joanna Teague, tracked down a lead. But Luke, the kid Gibbs had been trying to get through, shot Gibbs twice; once in the leg and once in the chest. Meanwhile, Tony got a call from the leader of The Calling, but Daniel Budd’s still out there. Back stateside, Vance was pretty sure he figured out The Calling’s next target, while McGee thought he had come up with the list of potential other targets as well.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, the aftermath of what happened to Gibbs will impact everyone. Part of wrapping up this arc includes bringing back both Luke and Mike Franks, who, as he has in the past, appeared to Gibbs in the finale and even warned him that he was being played.

Now, TVLine has reported that the NCIS season 13 premiere’s title is “Stop the Bleeding,” which is true not only of what’s happening to Gibbs but of what The Calling is doing around the world.

In other season 13 news, Two and a Half Men ‘s Jon Cryer will be guest starring in three episodes as Navy surgeon, Dr. Taft, according to Entertainment Weekly. As the photo posted along with the casting shows, it’s up to him to save Gibbs from his gunshot wounds. Cryer describes him as one of the good guys.

“He’s kind of the Jeff Goldblum of naval surgeons. Bit of a wiseass. Way too comfortable making jokes in the operating room.”

The actor also shared that he’s “looking forward to…seeing his friendship with Gibbs” since “he’s not the kind of guy Gibbs usually takes to.” His description of the character supports that, and with Cryer around for multiple episodes, it suggests that, at the very least, those first three episodes will see NCIS dealing directly with Gibbs’ recovery.

Interestingly, Cryer has shared that he’s wanted to guest star on the procedural drama for some time, but as one of the murder victims who ends up on Ducky’s table in the morgue. Instead, now he’s going to be in at least three episodes, but he can still end up on a slab if he comes back to play a murder victim.

“I’d be happy to come back. …Actually I kind of hope I don’t come back. I mean, how many time can they shoot Mark Harmon in the chest?”

NCIS season 13 premieres Tuesday, September 22 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
