Whole Foods is rethinking their decision to sell asparagus water for $5.99 per bottle after the product went wildly viral online — and not in a good way. The fact that Whole Foods put 3 sticks of asparagus in a bottle with water and slapped a $5.99 price tag on each bottle caused outrage and mockery online, reports TIME ?.

After going viral online, Whole Foods removed their $5.99 asparagus water from store shelves, reports CBS News ? — and they are launching an investigation into how the water ended up in a Whole Foods Los Angeles store where it has been removed. The $5.99 per bottle asparagus water was a mistake of a formulation, reports the company.

While asparagus is known to have plenty of health benefits — and fruit-infused or veggie-infused waters are all the rage these days with health advocates — consumers weren’t falling for the high-priced asparagus water. After turning to social media to voice their frustration at the $5.99 per bottle asparagus water, the story went totally viral and forced Whole Foods to take a closer look at the product they attempted to sell to customers.

The decision is being roundly made fun of online, especially in light of stores such as Giant Eagle Market District stores found in Ohio, which offer their customers free fruit-infused water a-plenty.

Apparently, news of the 16 ounce bottles of $5.99 asparagus water came to light after the Instagram account of Marielle Wakim, named marielle.m.n.o.p , posted a photo of the product, along with a description that mimicked what many Whole Foods shoppers felt upon spying out the expensive product.

“Somewhere in L.A., Whole Foods executives are laughing at all of us.”

After gaining more than 250 likes and more than 80 comments on her Instagram photo, Marielle found her pic going viral across various means of social networking sites. Wakim is an Associate Editor at Los Angeles magazine.

Meanwhile, folks are wondering how such a mistake could be made by Whole Foods — and sending their joking tweets all the way down the Twitter timelines of those searching for “ asparagus water ” tweets.

Besides the Whole Foods’ asparagus water faux pas making the rounds on social media due to it being overpriced, another viral Twitter label that began trending on Twitter involved Lottie Tomlinson . As reported by the Inquisitr , the sister of One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson made the news for rapping the N-word along with a song in a leaked Snapchat video.
