The Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray player will hit stores on May 6 and in preparation for that release date Sony has begun accepting online pre-orders for its new $250 movie player with extra built-in capabilities.

Fans of Sony blu-ray systems have plenty to celebrate with the release of the high end player, including the systems dual-core processor which gives it the ability to upscale video to 4K resolution which pairs it will with 4K projectors and 4K TVs which will debut in the near future.

The new blu-ray player’s power also makes it capable of converting 2D video into 3D video in real-time while offering 16-bit image processor for faster response.

Also featured on the blu-ray player is built-in Wi-Fi which allows users to access the Sony Entertainment Network and by association watch TV shows and movies from Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, Slacker, Pandora and Vudu.

For the social network obsessed the Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray player also allows for Facebook and Twitter sharing.

If that isn’t enough to send you running to the store or heading online to purchase the Blu-ray player it also allows for DLNA media sharing.

With the costs of Blu-ray players continuing to fall Sony is hoping it can grab high end users and multimedia fans with the BDP-S790 and with a rather decent $250 price tag given the features the player offers its not a bad choice.

Will you be heading out to pick up a $250, dual-core Blu-ray player or will you stick to multiple devices for your multimedia needs?
