Young Ready, whose real name was Shannen Hudson, was walking with another man, Jare Stevenson, when they were shot by an unknown assailant on the north side of Bogalusa just before 3:30 p.m., reports KPLC . The Washington Parish Coroner’s Office reported to KPLC that one victim died from a single gunshot wound, and the second died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities said that they have no suspects yet, but the local police are continuing to investigate. According to Hip Hop Vibe magazine, the rapper was “strong on the mixtape level and Young Ready was well-known by industry insiders.” In fact, “Young Ready has built a strong fan base due to his years of hard work. In the time since then, fans have waited on Young Ready to deliver even more new work. While he has more music coming, Young Ready can be added to an unfortunate list many rappers are joining,” writes Hip Hop Vibe .

“Ready’s music was the voice of the streets of Louisiana and other areas,” Kaleel Cain, Young Ready’s social network promoter , told reporters, according to E! News . “He will be truly missed.”

Young Ready, who was supposed to turn 32 this July, owned his own record label, Bow Entertainment. The label is affiliated with artists T-Dub, 31stDeedy, Lil Dundray, Young Crucial Juice, Lil Bam, Herbie, and Lit J, reports KPLC .

Fans expressed their condolences online after learning that the Baton Rouge rapper died . “May they rest in peace prayers goes for the families,” wrote one Louisiana fan to Young Ready’s family. One fan tweeted a quote, presumably from a Young Ready song, that is eerily ringing true today: “‘The day they claim they all loved ya is the day ya died’ – Young Ready”.

One tweeter questioned whether the crime was hate motivated, posting “The hate in Louisiana for people about to make it is as real as Lil Snupe, Young Ready, Lil Handy, Soulja Slim, NuSsie, etc… HATE IS REAL”, although there is no evidence that rapper Young Ready died as a result of a hate crime.
