The love tragedy between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder has been going on for months, long before Ms. Dobrev first breathed the news that she would be leaving The Vampire Diaries . That news, even coming as late in the Somerhalder-Dobrev drama as it did, seemed to confirm what many people were already thinking in that continuing to work together was preventing both Nina and Ian from really moving on with their lives. To the contrary, both Mr. Somerhalder and Ms. Dobrev made several statements affirming the continuation of their deep friendship.
“We were friends long before we dated and we still are now,” Ms. Dobrev had declared. “I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he’s great and I care about him. And that didn’t change.”
It now seems that one of them was pulling the wool over the public’s eyes and possibly over Nina’s eyes as well. On Wednesday, Ian left speculation behind, when he unfollowed Nina on Twitter .
This may come as a surprise to Dobrev, because she recently said of Somerhalder that they both thought fondly of one another and, even after Nina’s move to California, she contends that Ian was still a good friend.
Some contend that the move was not entirely Somerhalder’s idea and that the new wife, Nikki Reed, was behind the sudden move, perhaps out of jealousy and wanting a clean break.
On the other hand, it seems just as likely that this was all Ian’s idea and that he wasn’t feeling nearly as amicable as outward appearances had suggested. It may be that Ian was waiting for some distance in both time and distance to further separate himself from Nina. It seems just as likely that Ian wanted that clean break for his own reasons.
Could it be that Ian, who long ago moved on and into a relationship with his new wife Ms. Reed, could be the jealous one. News of Somerhalder unfollowing Nina comes just as several sources have begun to report on the budding romance between Ms. Dobrev and Austin Stowell . Could there be more feelings on Ian’s behalf than he has revealed?
It seems that the animosity, if there is any, is only one-sided. Nina still follows Somerhalder, so it would seem that Ms. Dobrev still has warm feelings for Mr. Somerhalder, even if he seems to have chosen to eliminate Nina from his life entirely.
