New ‘Fallout: New Vegas’ Speedrun Record At 27 Minutes

The speed run is a time-honored tradition among video game fans. The ability to complete a game in as little time as possible is a flag staked in the ground, challenging other players to do better. One such player who goes by the screen name Rydou has planted their own flag by setting a new Fallout: New Vegas speedrun record at 27 minutes.

Rydou’s run is not what some would consider a pure or vanilla run as the player takes advantage of a glitch or two to shave every second off that they could. The description from the video explains the glitch that helped set the speedrun record.

“When you cripple your leg, you get slower, and then when you heal it, you’re supposed to get your speed back. By quickloading just before getting crippled, you can confuse the game into giving you the speed back without actually ever losing it (because we don’t actually really get crippled). So you get a huge speedboost, and walk at 165% of your walking speed.”

Rydou is planning to shave yet another 20 to 30 seconds off their new Fallout New Vegas speed run record before they are satisfied with the results.

Speedrunning is something that can be done on pretty much any game and has a dedicated fan base across the world. Sites like Speedrun host documented streams where gamers can post their speedruns and compete with others. Charity organizations, such as Games Done Quick, benefit efforts such as Doctors Without Borders and Prevent Cancer Foundation.

Interest in Fallout has increased since the announcement of Fallout 4 as the Inquisitr reported . Sales of Fallout 3 and New Vegas have increased, giving plenty of other gamers the chance to make speed run videos of their own as they explore the nuclear wastelands of Washington, D.C. and California.
