No Mid-May Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Announcement Despite Rumors

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 won’t be announced anytime soon, despite the rumors. Last month, Slash Gear revealed an alleged secret regarding the release of Microsoft’s upcoming tablet .

“This morning we’ve gotten word from an anonymous source that the Surface Pro 4 will be revealed at a special Microsoft event in mid-May… While we’ve not had extensive experience with our source before, we have great reason to believe this prediction will come true.”

Slash Gear then went on to say that the announcement is likely, given that there was a recent extensive Surface Pro 4 information leak. However, Slash Gear doesn’t say that the leak could have been completely fake. One always has to take rumors, especially in the tech industry, with a grain of salt.

A conversation with a manager at the Microsoft Store in Los Angeles on Thursday, in which it was pointed out that the Surface Pro 4 could be announced any day now, lead to laughs and eye rolls. In fact, it appears that Microsoft is concentrating on the new Surface 3 laptop/hybrid, which is selling rapidly — at least at the Microsoft Store Southern California retail locations in both Los Angeles and Orange County.

The Surface 3 may not have as much power at the Surface Pro 3, but it has received excellent reviews. Mashable believes that those looking for an affordable touchscreen laptop for a student or office worker who will do lots of Microsoft Office tasks and open only a few browser windows at a time will love the Surface 3. The Sydney Morning Herald thinks that the Surface 3 strikes a great balance between a notebook and tablet. They note that the Surface 3 feels snappy when running Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer side-by-side.

Should consumers who want a more powerful laptop/tablet hybrid buy the Surface Pro 3 now or wait until the release of the Surface Pro 4? BGR thinks the Surface Pro 4 will have some features that are similar to both the Retina MacBook and Surface Pro 3.

“The Surface Pro 4 will also ditch the fan like the new slim MacBook, but that doesn’t mean it’ll pack an Intel Core M processor that will also reduce the performance of this pure Windows 10 computer… Apparently, the device will have a similar heat signature as the Surface Pro 3, as well, as it’ll pack a fifth-gen Intel Broadwell processor.”

BGR goes on to note that the Surface Pro 4 is expected to feature a 12-inch display with 2160 x 1440 pixels of resolution, which is the same as the Surface Pro 3. However, other sources claim the Surface Pro 4 will have a 4K screen. Let’s hope Microsoft gives us a concrete release date and accurate specs for the new Surface Pro soon.
