What time does the Kentucky Derby start on May 2, and how can you watch the annual horse race online? Get your mint julep ready — live coverage of the annual horse race starts at 4 p.m. ET, and there are several ways to view or listen to the “Run for the Roses” online.

NBC will broadcast live from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, on your local cable television channel, but there are a number of options for watching online or on your mobile device if you aren’t near a TV at race time.

Watch the Kentucky Derby live streaming online for free on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or Android device using the NBC Live Extra app. The broadcast will run from 4 p.m. ET to 7:30 p.m. ET, with an anticipated race start time of 6:24 p.m. ET.

To use the NBC Live Extra App, viewers must register on NBC to start the live streaming coverage and verify that they have a pay-TV subscription with one of 15 providers, including Verizon FiOs, COX, ATT-UVerse, and Comcast. The process takes only a few minutes, but it’s always a good idea to get things set up well before the Kentucky Derby coverage starts so you don’t miss a minute of what’s often referred to as “the most exciting two minutes in sports.”

The NBC Live Extra App is also available for the iPhone, iPad, and Android smartphones and tablets. Download the free app for iPhone/iPad in iTunes , or find the app for Android on Google Play .

In the car on race day? Sirius XM radio will be broadcasting the Kentucky Derby on Channel 92, with pre-race coverage starting at 10 a.m.

If you aren’t able watch or listen to the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, follow @KentuckyDerby on Twitter for the latest updates and race results. See photos of the big day on the official Kentucky Derby Instagram feed.

Photos and tweets from those who are lucky enough to attend the race at Churchill Downs will also give viewers a look at what’s going on now only on the track, but in the stands at Churchill Downs. Find race-related tweets by searching under the hashtag #KentuckyDerby2015 or #KYDerby .
