Despite what some may say, the iPhone is still a hot item. How hot? Let’s hear what the Wall Street Journal has to say.
“Apple Inc. is pulling off a feat rarely seen in any industry, much less the cutthroat world of consumer electronics: gaining market share while also commanding higher prices. Led by the larger-display iPhones it introduced last fall, Apple on Monday said it sold 61.2 million iPhones in the three months ended March 28, up 40% from the year-earlier period…Strong iPhone demand underpinned a 33% increase in profit for Apple’s fiscal second quarter. Net income totaled $13.57 billion, versus $10.22 billion in the year-ago period.”
Apple’s incredible gain in market share is probably one of the reasons the company has been taking some risks lately. First, there has been the release of the 12-inch MacBook with the Retina display. The reviews have been mixed, with some saying the device is underpowered and Apple made a mistake by including just one port (USB-C). At the MacRumors forums, some people complained about the price, but really like Apple’s device .
“I am upgrading from a 2009 MacBook Pro so I can’t really compare how it performs but it is snappy!! The Retina display is gorgeous. The keyboard will take some getting used to but it is accurate so far. The backlighting is much better than the old one. The Trackpad is magic!! And the weight difference is definitely noticeable even when compared to the Air. I’m glad I made the jump,” says user “ Bleedcubbieblue .”
Then, there is the Apple Watch. The device seems to be selling well, but the battery allegedly doesn’t last long when paired with the iPhone 6. BGR describes the Apple Watch problem .
“Some users are reporting that the Apple Watch is having a very noticeable negative impact on iPhone battery life. The Watch has to be paired with an iPhone in order to work, and the devices use both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to move data back and forth. It looks like those connections, or perhaps the Apple Watch companion app on the iPhone, are causing excessive battery drain on the iPhone 6 and other iPhone models.”
Even if Apple’s new MacBook and Apple Watch end up selling lower than expected, Apple is still ahead in the overall game. Aside from preparing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus for release in September, the Cupertino company is getting ready to release the iPad Pro , which could give Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 a run for its money. Despite some missteps over the past five years, Apple is still the top consumer electronics company in the world.
