Jay Cutler will be throwing to some familiar hands in 2012. The Chicago Bears have just acquired Cutler’s former teammate and Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for two third round picks.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Marshall caught 81 passes for 1,214 yards and six touchdowns last season to reach the Pro Bowl for the fourth times in his career. Marshall started his career alongside Jay Cutler with the Denver Broncos.
Chicago linebacker Brian Urlacher said:
“I think he’s going to be great for Jay and our offense,It’s cool that he and Jay played together in Denver so there is some familiarity.”
The trade still has to be approved by the league and Marshall still needs to pass a physical.
The Miami Herald reports that Marhsall was due was due $9.3 million, $9.1 million and $9.1 million over the next three years. Getting rid of Marshall will free up some room under the salary cap, possibly to sign Peyton Manning, but Miami will also have to look for a new offensive weapon. DeSean Jackson, Reggie Wayne, Dwayne Bowe, Pierre Garcon, Brandon Lloyd and Mario Manningham are currently the top players on the free agent list.
Reggie Bush, Marshall’s former teammate on Miami, wrote on Twitter:
“Hate to see my boy B Marshall go. That’s the league for you, one day your hear next day your gone. Chicago is getting one hell of a player!”
