Microsoft has now officially announced a new search and advertising deal with Facebook. Senior VP Satya Nadella revealed the development at the company’s annual financial meeting Thursday.
Under the arrangement, first reported by Reuters , Microsoft will provide all search functions and search advertising for the social network site via its Live utility. Microsoft already has an exclusive deal to sell non-U.S. ads on Facebook as part of its $240 million investment last year. The new deal, of course, follows its failed attempts earlier this year to expand its online presence with the acquisition of Yahoo.
Google has a very similar search and ad arrangement with MySpace — though its deal has yet to see significant results, as Mashable points out .
The Microsoft-Facebook search/advertising function is expected to be up and running before the end of the year.
