Galaxy S5 users finally get access to the long awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update as it rolls out throughout the world. Samsung has been notably ponderous when it came to preparing the update for Galaxy S5, despite it being their flagship smartphone for the time being.
Back in early February, Samsung began rolling out Lollipop for S5 users in the USA, but it was a very limited release, according to the Inquisitr.
“ The Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 has been rolled over to many users across the globe. The update was typically limited to the international device, also known as the SM-G900F. The Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is finally coming to the new model, and Verizon users are one of the first in the U.S. to receive Samsung’s new operating system.”
In addition to a number of changes and long-awaited improvements, including greatly advertised Material Design, this update led to a number of problems, the most notable of them being that it removed the silent mode feature that allowed users to mute their smartphones.
The Lollipop update that is being rolled out now is a brand new one: it addresses some of these problems and returns this feature. Earlier this month Samsung rolled it out for the Galaxy Note Edge, and users reported that silent mode was back in its place, which means that Samsung recognizes it as a problem and is going to correct it for other devices as well.
Several days ago Samsung started to roll it out for S5, although again, in a very limited fashion. According to GottaBeMobile , it is available for only one specific model in Europe: “ The new Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update is rolling out to owners of the SM-G900F unlocked variant in the United Kingdom but not for Galaxy S5 users in other parts of Europe just yet. Those who own this version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 should be able to download the update by heading into the device’s settings.”
It is hard to say what Samsung is going to do with Lollipop update and where it is going to apply it next: Samsung is notoriously unpredictable about its software updates and rarely comments on its plans in this area. However, it is logical to assume that Lollipop will continue to roll out for Galaxy S5 throughout the world – Samsung usually gets new updates to its flagship devices first.
