Dakota Johnson got snippy on the red carpet during an interview with her mom, Melanie Griffith. According to the New York Daily News , Johnson’s new film Fifty Shades Of Grey came up in conversation, and when her mom said that she didn’t think it would be a good idea to see the movie, Dakota got pretty annoyed .
“I don’t think I can. I think it would be strange,” Griffith told ABC during the red carpet interview. Dakota didn’t care too much for her mother’s lack of enthusiasm, and she responded.
“You don’t have to see it. I think it’s okay. It’s a movie. She knows that. I’m like, ‘You can see it!’ and she’s just like, ‘No,’” she snapped.
Dakota Johnson’s snippy response made headlines on Monday. Of course there has sort of always been this ongoing discussion about whether or not her parents (dad is Don Johnson) should see the film, which features a lot of nudity and sex. From Dakota’s perspective, she’s super proud of the film, and she’s getting tons of attention for it, but her parents aren’t too keen on seeing their daughter be flogged, acting or not.
According to the Contra Costa Times , Dakota had previously made it very clear that she didn’t want her mom and dad seeing the film.
“I have not seen Fifty Shades of Grey . I don’t think I’m going to see it. [Dakota] was like, ‘You guys cannot come. There’s no way.’ So we’re not going. I did go visit for a couple of days when they were shooting, just normal stuff. I did see the room of pain — I did go in there and check it out,” said Griffith last summer.
Dakota Johnson might have been snippy because she’s tired of her parents making a big deal of her taking on such a risque role, but, in fairness, she sort of made a stink first. However, she’s probably wishing that her parents saw the film on their own to show that they support her, and appreciate her work in the industry. With two more films lined up, Johnson needs to figure out this stuff with her parents — the awkwardness isn’t going to just go away.
